SPIN THIS: Japanese wunderkind Toshi Kubota
has a brilliant new jazz-funk album that fits the needs of both adult and mainstream R&B
stations. It's called "Sunshine Moonlight" on Columbia, featuring the single 'Just The Two
Of Us.' a hip remake of the Grover Washington/BillWithers tune, featuring former Soul II
Soul diva Caron Wheeler. Born in Tokyo, Kubota has already
recorded nine albums in Japan that have sold more than 1 million copies each. The American
debut features contributions from Nile Rodgers, bassist Victor Bailey, singer Joi Cardwell,
and D'Wayne Wiggins of Tony Toni Toni, as well as Kubota's soulful homeboyvocals.
