Toshi Kubota Sings About
"Nothing But Love" Japanese R&B
man Toshi Kubota recently released his sophomore English
album, Nothing But Your Love. The smooth, laid back
album features appearances by Pras of the Fugees and boasts
songs written and produced by Raphael Saadiq, Angie Stone, and
The Roots. Kubota recently spoke to VIBE Online about his love
for soul music. "Soul music is from the heart," says the
Japanese native who cites Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway as
some of his influences. "It's not from peopleās brains. It's
from the heart and the soul. So music can reach different
kinds of people. It doesn't matter where youāre born or come
from. Music is for everyone. When I go to the studio, I sing
the soul of my heart."
Kubota also talked described
his experience working with the hip hop group, The Roots. "The
Roots are really good," said Kubota. "They produced three
songs. I went to Philly to work with them. Amir, Quest Love,
the drummer, he's the best to work with. He's so funky, and
groovy, and talented."
Toshi Kubota is also putting
the finishing touches on his Japanese album. He will kick off
a tour in September that includes scheduled stops in Los
Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York. VIBE
Online will keep you posted when the actual dates are
announced.
