New cover possiblities!
|
Look out everyone! Toshi is back with another English language album, set to blow your mind yet again. The album is recorded, the record is mastered, and the photo shoot has been shot. Obviously, the machine is rolling full speed ahead!
The album release date has been scheduled for Spring 2004. But don't worry. The single will hit air-waves sooner. As previously mentioned, Angie Stone's collaboration will be the first single. A video is scheduled for shooting sometime in January. Keep your eyes and ears ready for it. In the meantime, check out a collage of different pictures Toshi may use for the album cover.

Toshi and Serban at the mixing session
Toshi, Angie Stone, and Toshinori Yonekura (Toshi's buddy/R&B
singer), backstage at Madison Square Garden
|
Toshi is putting the finishing touches on his 3rd English language album set for release in early 2004. As mentioned previously, Angie Stone lends her talents to more than few songs on the album. Their friendship extends outside of the studio walls. In fact, Toshi visited with Angie backstage at the recent Madison Square Garden Brian McKnight/Angie Stone concert.
Along with doing all that stuff with Angie, Toshi also collaborated with several other people. The latest completed collaboration, entitled "Living For Today" was co-written with Mercedes of the Jazzfatnastees. Buckwild produced an incredibly bouncy and punchy beat that just begs to be played in the clubs. To complement the track Toshi switches his style from his normally smooth laid-back groove to an aggressive staccato that accentuates the downbeat. It makes for an awesome song ready for radio play.
Needless to say, Toshi is doing everything it takes to make a quality album. This includes traveling to Virginia Beach to work with Serban Ghenea, the mixer behind all the Neptunes' hits who works out of Philly Tracks. Serban mixed down the song produced by Ivan & Carvin-which obviously features Toshi's vocals. Toshi also recorded strings with Larry Gold (who did work on the last English album) in Philadelphia. Larry's most recent solo album, "Don Cello" was released from BBE.

Toshi & Johnathan "JR" Richmond
|
Toshi has been busy recording his forthcoming album for Epic, going back and forth between the East Coast and the West Cost. In late January, Toshi got together with Angie Stone again and recorded a very catchy, sweet duet. And in February, they started recording yet another track!! Pictured on left is the genius, Jonathan "JR" Richmond from Memphis Tennessee, who has been an essential part of these Toshi ¡¦Angie collaborations. The new beat he came up with for their latest song reminds me of a Jamiroqui-ish club vibe, but with a totally home grown, deep southern soul flavor. Toshi's vocal sits right on top of this heart pounding groove, and it will certainly melt you down. Jonathan, you are the greatest!
